Teens Are Playing A ‘Game’ That Tricks Parents Into Thinking They Have Gone Missing For 2 Days

Life in the United States is difficult for the modern parent. Did you know that nearly 800,000 children vanish each year and that only 80 percent of them are actually found? Many of the children who experience abduction each year are never given the chance to go back home again. These children do not survive their kidnappings, creating a nightmare scenario that haunts many parents.

This overwhelming fear is what causes parents and other authority figures to take several precautions when it comes to safeguarding little ones. Now that we are learning more and more about the prevalence of stranger danger, children are being outfitted with GPS tracking technology that allows their parents to keep a close eye on them at all times.

The strain of a missing child is tough for a family to bear. The pain and guilt that a parent experiences by losing a child is almost impossible to overcome. Wondering about the fate of a lost child is something that no parent should ever have to go through. A new trend that has started in the United Kingdom has brought these difficulties into clearer focus.

The 48 Hour Challenge is the latest silly social media creation. This “challenge” just might be the most dangerous to date, however. In order to take part, groups of children are asked to run away from home for at least two days. When the parents of the children head to social media in order to ask for assistance in locating the child, they are able to rack up points.

This is the type of game that has no winners at all, only losers. The police already face a major burden as is. The last thing that they need are children who find it funny to spread false rumors about their disappearance. This takes time and resources away from the officers who are in the process of trying to bring home other children who have already been lost.

Parents everywhere need to take the time to learn more about this challenge, so that they can let their children know just how unacceptable this is. This is not a game that any child should ever be playing and the consequences of these types of decision are more dire than a young person could ever realize. Please share this story to spread awareness about this incredibly dangerous challenge!
